Counselling Services & What to Expect
In-Person Counselling
I offer a warm and comfortable environment for you to care for your grief. What can you expect in your first 1.5-hour appointment? First, we review your understanding of my policies, processes, and fees and clarify any questions you may have.
In the main portion of the session, I learn about the concerns that bring you to me. We discuss and set goal(s) to care for aspects of your grief or loss that you raise as currently problematic; I suggest possible treatment (traditional, holistic and energy-based) options as to how to ease/improve your grief. This is based on the information you have shared with me. The final 15 minutes is a review of your session experience, review and agreement on a flexible treatment plan, arrange home-practice activities, following session structure, and schedule your next appointment. Payment will be made through Janeapp, where you enter demographic information and provide a credit card number. All sessions will charge your credit card after the session has been completed.
Subsequent sessions are 75 minutes in length. They review home-practice activities and any new issues that need to be addressed, check progress toward the preferred goal or outcome, review the session-set home-practice and self-care activities, and conclude with payment.
Online Counselling
Online service is offered to Adult Albertans 18 years of age and older. Sessions are structured in person for the first session and subsequent session length. Please note that the rate for the first session fee is higher than that for subsequent sessions due to the extended length (see Fees page for current rates).
Walk and Talk Counselling
I offered this new service to meet clients' needs during the pandemic. I continue to offer Walk and Talk counselling as a form of counselling while walking outdoors in public spaces instead of in a traditional office setting. Walk and Talk sessions can be available intermittently or regularly. Some people feel uncomfortable with face-to-face contact and find walking and talking helpful as the counsellor walks alongside them, and there are plenty of things in the environment to focus on.
My sessions are currently held from June to September in Fish Creek Park near my office. Walking in nature is proven to regulate our nervous system and have a natural soothing effect. Walk-and-talk counselling for grief is a wonderful way to teach us to honour our grief and to let go of pain, tension, and guilt with the natural flow and movement of being in the elements.
